Queer affirming therapy on the Eastern Shore of Maryland

In-person in Berlin, MD & online throughout MD

You don’t have to hide yourself anymore.

Leave the shame behind

Are you trying to manage hopelessness, shame, insecurity, or even denial as a result of your gender or sexual orientation? When you look in the mirror does the reflection seem wrong? Maybe even just taking a shower or changing your clothes has become anxiety producing because of the discomfort you’re experiencing in your own body.

When you hide your true self because of shame or uncertainty your world can start to feel small. Maybe you only have a few trusted people with whom you can be your authentic self. Maybe you have no one and are experiencing frequent loneliness.

Do you need a place to talk through your understanding of yourself without the pressure of “coming out?” Maybe you’re sure of yourself but need support in feeling more confident.

Life doesn’t have to stay this way.

You can be confident in who you are.

You can live a life where people remember that your queerness is not the most interesting thing about you.

You can be you again

What to expect:

Through supportive, collaborative, and affirming therapy we will discuss your identity and values in order to evaluate if you are living as your true self. Through resilience and strength promoting techniques, you will improve your sense of self and increase your confidence. We will work together to establish a community of support so you don’t have to be alone anymore.

You Can:

  • Be yourself

  • Feel confident

  • Celebrate who you are

Common questions about therapy for LGBTQIA+ folx

  • I only practice queer affirming therapy. I will not participate in care that seeks to change anyone’s knowledge of their gender, orientation, etc, nor do I agree with having clients prove themselves to family members. Your child will only receive gender affirming care when in treatment with me.

  • Absolutely not. One of the most helpful parts of this therapy is that you have the freedom to explore and process. Sexuality is fluid and can change throughout the course of a lifetime. You never will be locked into an identity when in treatment.

  • A: It is normal for someone to feel that they aren’t ready to share their true selves with the rest of the world just yet. It is up to you how you would like to be identified when receiving paperwork from Catharsis Counseling. Unfortunately, however, insurance companies will only reimburse claims which identify someone’s birth certificate name and their assigned sex at birth.

Together, let’s make you proud.
