Reconnection. Understanding. Renewal.

Therapy for relationship issues

In-person in Berlin, MD and virtually throughout Maryland

“This isn’t what I signed up for…”

It doesn’t have to be like this

Where once was love and joy, now you can only see the arguments, the loneliness, the angry texts, and the pain. Maybe sex has become just another item on the to-do list if it even happens at all. Neither one of you are satisfied but you’re not sure what to do; the date nights are exhausting or just feel like band aids, you’re feeling like there is nothing in common between you and your partner, and you are feeling alone inside of your own marriage.

Stop letting this morning’s argument come to work with you or fill you with dread to go home. With as busy as we all are, it can feel difficult to make time to even argue, let alone, connect. The conflicts lead to disconnection and before you know it, you find yourself in a sexless marriage.

For parents, relationship issues will impact more than just the couple. The quality of your marriage will, inevitably, affect your children.  Kids look to us as examples of how to treat someone in a relationship and how we should expect to be treated. No one wants their children to grow up in a house permeated by tension and anger.

Reconnection is possible

Your relationship can renew and heal. Imagine if your relationship felt like a source of strength and comfort that allowed you to be more confident. Imagine having your best friend back.

Heal after infedility

Get your marriage back. Feel peace again.

We will work together to heal both of you and the relationship

Your sessions will be used deeply and respectfully exploring the struggles of each person, allowing each partner to be heard. Couples therapy teaches partners many skills including: improved communication, active listening, and validation. Couples will practice these skills at home to ensure that what works in the therapy room transfers to where it really matters.

Common questions about counseling for relationship issues

  • You can expect couples therapy to take 12 to 16 sessions, at the minimum. In order to get a thorough understanding of the dynamic, I use a multistep process: initial meeting, respective individual meetings with each partner, and a follow up joint meeting to review strengths and vulnerabilities of the relationship. We will discuss a treatment plan at that time. Duration of treatment is dependent on commitment to the relationship, implementation of therapeutic skills at home, and openness to your partner.

  • Couples counseling can become heated. I am committed to not letting you pay to argue in the therapy office. I encourage both partners to reflect on their commitment to the relationship and the process prior to beginning treatment in order to ensure the best possible outcome. If we need to pause or pivot treatment due to unresolvable conflict we can.

  • I see anyone in a relationship--engaged, married, dating, domestic partners, etc. Couples therapy is absolutely open to non-heterosexual couples.
